Julian Soto
Julian Soto is chasing a rare home-water dream: representing the United States in the ILCA 7 at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, three decades after learning to sail in Marina del Rey. For Julian, this is more than a distant Olympic ambition. The racing venue, the training grounds and the community that shaped him are all part of the same Southern California coastline.
His path has not been a straight line, and that is part of what makes the campaign compelling. Julian raced for the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, placing fifth at the 2011 PCCSC Men’s Singles Championship and third the following year. After time away from elite singlehanded competition, he returned to the ILCA 7 and earned a place in the 126-boat fleet at the 2022 Men’s World Championship.
The results since then show real momentum. Julian won the ILCA 7 fleet at Richmond Yacht Club’s 2024 Totally Dinghy regatta, finished ninth at the 2025 ILCA 7 Masters World Championship with a race win, and placed second overall and first apprentice at the 2026 Masters Pacific Coast Championship. Those performances have put him back in international competition with a clear target: build the speed, consistency and racing experience required to contend for the U.S. berth in 2028.
Julian’s campaign also reaches beyond his own results. Through MindBodyBoat, he brings together sailing-specific fitness, recovery and on-the-water coaching. He has coached Laser clinics for Tahoe Community Sailing and organized Bay Area ILCA training days designed to give more sailors access to structured, high-quality practice. Team Soto shares the work behind the campaign—the training, equipment, travel, setbacks and gains—so supporters can follow the full journey rather than only the finish line.
An Olympic-class campaign is won through thousands of hours on the water and repeated opportunities to race the best sailors in the world. Support for Team Soto helps turn those opportunities into a consistent program: coaching, equipment, domestic training and the international events that sharpen race craft under pressure. It backs a Los Angeles sailor working toward a home Games while investing in the sailing communities he continues to coach and strengthen.
